Treating minor burns and scalds
Jump to navigation Jump to search
- A minor burn or scald could be on the fingertip or a very small burn on the body. The skin usually gets red and is painful. (Sunburn is also classed as minor burn). Gently place the burn area in cold water, or under a running tap, for about ten minutes.
- Never apply ointment or antiseptics and do not try to break blisters.
- If cold water is not available, cover lightly with a clean, dry dressing.
- Do not attempt to treat anyone who has been badly burned but do cool the burns down with cold water and call for help.
