1st Blaauwberg

From SCOUTS South Africa Wiki

1st Blaauwberg Sea Scouts

1st Blaauwberg Sea Scouts was established in April 1996 with 20 Scouts and 15 Cubs, holding its first meeting on 7 May 1996 at grounds on Avondale Road. The group was officially registered with headquarters on 1 October 1996.

Registered as a Sea Scout group due to the close affiliation with 1st Milnerton Sea Scouts.

That same year, two Saldanha boats were donated.

Our scarf colours have remained unchanged, with red symbolising courage, bravery and passion.

At the time of formation, Gustav Bernhardt served as Troop Scouter and Yvonne Driver as Pack Scouter.

The committee faced challenges with the municipality when the Avondale land was allocated to a church, which still occupies the site today. As a result, a land swap was arranged for the property we now occupy on Willow Road. However, it took nearly ten years for the land to be officially transferred into the name of Scouts and for municipal rates to be resolved, as 1st Blaauwberg continued to be billed for the Avondale property—leading to ongoing disputes between the municipality and Scouts South Africa.

In 1999, we joined our first Kontiki.

In 2010, our first female Cub joined the group and later progressed to Scouts.

In January of 2026, we launched our Meerkat programme for the first time.

To date, our troop has produced ten Springbok Scouts.
