At a meeting of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) – now African Union (AU), in Addis Ababa it was decided to establish the 13th March as Africa Scout Day, The African region celebrates this day to show the achievements of Scouting in Africa.

The first official Africa Scout Day was organised by Mr. Kiraithe O. A. Nyaga, for the 13th March 2000.

In September 2010, the Africa Scout Committee decided to give the Africa Scout Day celebration a regional outlook, and now assigns a National Scouting Organisation to host the main celebration where Scouts and Scouters can meet, to promote the “spirit of world kinship, cooperation and mutual assistance amongst Scout Organisations within the Region”

Every year a regional event is held to mark the Africa Scout day with a main theme that varies from year to year. The event is a 3 day camp; during which time the scouts will get involved in numerous learning and community service activities. This camp is open to Scouts and Scouters from Africa as well as visitors from across the world.

Each national scouting organisation also runs its own Africa Scout Day celebration in their own country.
