Ingredients
- 500ml flour
- 10ml baking powder
- 75g margarine
- 1 egg
- a pinch of salt
- 80ml of sugar
- 440g tin of pie apples
- Cinnamon
Method
- Cream the sugar with the margarine.
- Whisk the egg and add a little at a time to the creamed mixture, beating well in between.
- Now add the dry ingredients until you have a thick, fairly dry dough.
- Grease the tart dish and press a layer of dough across the base and walls, leaving some dough for the roof.
- Spoon the apples on top of the pastry, sprinkling a little (brown) sugar on top and cinnamon if you like, and cover with the remaining pastry. This can either be grated on or put on in slices across the top of the pie.
- Bake for about half an hour in a pre-heated Dutch oven. (Remember that you must rest the pie on some stones in the Dutch oven so that the heat is dispersed evenly. Make sure that you have the same amount of heat on the top of the Dutch oven as you have at the bottom for even cooking.)
