The blackwall hitch is a simple and easy hitch to make and consists of a half hitch loop with the end of rope passed underneath the standing part and across a hook so that as soon as pressure is exerted the standing part bears on the end and jams it against the hook.

Uses

The blackwall hitch is used as a temporary means of attaching a rope to a hook, when the rope and hook are of a similar thickness.

Note: This hitch is likely to slip under heavy load and should not be used to hoist humans.
