PART A

  1. Make a poster educating people on how to protect a habitat that amphibians live in (like a local wetland) and put it up in your library, school or cub hall.
  2. List at least ten venomous snakes found in southern Africa and know their different types of venom.
  3. List the three different types of venom and how they attack the human body.
  4. Be able to recognize the difference between a venomous and non-venomous snake from a photo.
  5. List five types of harmless snakes found in southern Africa.

PART B

  1. LIZARDS AND SKINKS
    • Know at least three differences between a skink and a lizard and be able to identify the difference between them from a photo.
    • List two types of lizards found in southern Africa.
  2. SNAKES
    • Know where a snake's shedding starts, why they need to shed, and on average how long it takes for a snake to shed its skin.
    • Know and explain why the snake’s tongue is forked.
  3. CHAMELEONS
    • Explain how chameleons appear to change colour.
    • List two types of chameleons found in southern Africa.
  4. FROGS AND TOADS
    • Research two endangered frogs found in southern Africa.
    • Find five unusual, little known facts about frogs.
    • List three differences between a toad and a frog.
  5. SALAMANDERS
    • Are there any species of salamander in southern Africa?
    • What extraordinary ability does the salamander have that only one other animal has. What is it and what other amphibian can also do this.
