Cub Olympics theme
Cub Olympics activities from the 2019 Western Cape Cub Fun Day:
Throw the beanbag
Cubs practise their aim by throwing a beanbag through a hole in a board. If they can't do it from a distance after 3 attempts, let them move closer and try again, but this time standing on one leg while they throw. |
Ring toss
Cubs toss a ring over a cooldrink bottle (bottles half filled with so that they stand up better). The same bottles can also be used as skittles which the Cubs must knock over with a tennis ball, either thrown overhand or bowled underarm. |
Driestokkies (Three Sticks)
This is an indigenous game played with three sticks. Start with three sticks close together and let the Cubs step over them, one step for each line. Then move the lines a bit further apart and let them try again. Let them take a run-up as the lines get further apart, and keep increasing the distance to see how far they can jump. |
Plank race
This is a good teamwork activity for 2 or more people. |
Aim for the hole
Using PVC pipes (or cut-off cooldrink bottles) to make a triangular array of holes with different scores on each hole. The Cubs stand a few paces away and throw a tennis ball into the holes trying to get the highest score. |
Pool noodle javelin
Pool noodles are floppy and quite difficult to throw accurately! See if the Cubs can get them through the holes in the target. |
Limbo
Limbo is a fun activity for balance and flexibility. See who can walk under a level bar while leaning backwards, without touching the bar, and only their feet touching the ground. It can either be done using two people holding the bar, or you can build a frame so the heights are more precise. |
Handprints and footprints
Cubs follow the tracks on all fours, but they are only allowed to step on the footprints and put their hands on the handprints. |
