Also known as Tripod lashing. Three staves are laid so that the centre stave goes in the opposite direction to the two outer ones.

  1. Start with either a clove hitch or a timber hitch on one of the outside stave.
  2. Wrap the rope neatly, but not too tightly, under and over the staves until six or seven complete turns have been taken.
  3. Finish with frapping turns round either side of the central stave and tie off with the clove hitch.
  4. The tripod is formed by turning the centre stave through 180 degrees and opening out the other two staves.
