2022/v2 update

The changes to the policy for the Scout uniform to be implemented are:

  • LDC moved to PLTU position
  • Shape of water/air charge badge changed to rectangle
  • Badges on right sleeve are numbered from 1 to 20 (similar to the Cub uniform), with the instruction: "Scoutcraft, Interest and SDG Badges are added to the sleeve in the order that the badges are earned"
  • On the graphic, no badge details (e.g. Scoutcraft or Interest badge outline) are visible on the right sleeve.

Interest, Scoutcraft and SDG badges (right sleeve)

The new uniform policy (2022/v2) now states that "Scoutcraft, Interest and SDG Badges are added to the sleeve in the order that the badges are earned" (p. 28). Can someone add the order (numbering), and maybe mix the badges up a bit - including an SDG badge or two? Leo (talk) 23:08, 28 January 2023 (SAST)

That was quite correct when scouting only had one family of interest badges, and now we have
  • Scoutcraft badges - when an interest badge is earned the corresponding scoutcraft badge is removed (like Pioneering, First Aid) causing a modge-podge on the sleeve.
  • The segmented round Food-for-life which just messes with the neatness of the sleeve (read asthetics/feng shui).
  • The SDG badges which are different in size and design (not matching the theme of the uniform).
Recommend we need to put in a request to change the wording in the uniform policy - see discussion on the Uniform Badge Placement talk page on the LDC badge. This gives the scout a bit more control over the neatness of the uniform.
Suggested change to Scout uniform
The LDC badge is shown in the PLTU spot in the new policy, yay!
Anyway, in the past the picture showed 1 row of Scoutcraft badges at the top, with Interest badges in 4 rows below that. The new picture in the Policy does not show what kind of badge it is at all (a plain rectangle), but the positions are numbered like the Cub uniform. And it includes the statement that all three types - Scoutcraft, Interest and SDG - should be added in the order they are earned. In other words, whatever your first badge is, it goes left of top centre. Sounds like the idea is to embrace the modge-podge as a colourful scatter pattern.
I'm including my suggestion for the updated image here. Leo (talk) 23:31, 29 January 2023 (SAST)
New version uploaded with a variety of badges, but no numbering yet - I don't have an easy way of doing it Leo (talk) 20:55, 31 January 2023 (SAST)
Thanks. The rename to remove the date is sensible (I renamed the Cub one a few days ago). Updates here need to be based on the uniform policy document. The artwork on this page originally comes from JP Percival in Gauteng, which I think is an official version. That has been updated a few times for this page, basically because I wasn't aware of where the artwork came from, but ideally we need updates here to be in line with JP's official one. It's easy enough to make a new graphic from it, but the wiki page then needs updating so the clickable links are in the right locations on the image, which takes a bit of effort when things move. Do you mean that there is an official, updated, colourised graphic @ScoutWeb? If not, how do we implement the change on the black & white policy document in colour? Leo (talk) 10:24, 5 February 2023 (SAST)
Yes, as far as I know, JP Percival produces official colour graphics in PDF and jpg/png format, based on the policy document. I'll check with him and confirm. ScoutWeb (talk) 07:31, 6 February 2023 (SAST)

Rename the file

Suggest we move this image to File:Scout Badge Chart
Then any update will immediately reflect in all the places the file is used - we will keep track of the changes in the comments area. Otherwise as we change to Scout Badge Chart 2022 - we need to update all pages using the image (= more work and possible mistakes)
