Initial treatment

The mnemonic to remember the treatment of sprains is R.I.C.E

  • R - Rest
  • I - Ice
  • C - Compression
  • E - Elevation

Slightly different uses of RICE:

  • Red Cross training : R - Rest, I - Immobilise, C - Cool , and E - Elevate.


After 4 days of RICE you may begin "L.O.V.E."

  • L - Load
  • O - Optimism
  • V - Vascularisation
  • E - Exercise
