A Kookaburra is an Australian bird. This song has been in Guiding and Scouting seemingly for ever. The song was written more than 70 years ago by Australian teacher Marion Sinclair for a Girl Guides competition. There are modern additions about eating gum drops, added to nursery school versions.

Lyrics

Kookaburra sits on the old gum tree,

Merry merry king of the bush is he.

Laugh, Kookaburra, laugh, Kookaburra,

Gay your life must be!

Sung as a Round. Divide the circle into two or three sections. End after two iterations.
