Recycling Badge Activities

Here are some ideas for the Meerkat Recycling Badge.

Flower Pot

Task 3: Create something useful from recyclable items.

Time: 10 - 15 minutes

Equipment: Empty 2L bottle (Coke etc.), Scissors, Sellotape, Rulers, and Permanent Markers. Potting soil and Plants (add 5 minutes to your activity time)

Method:

Meerkats should start by drawing the cutlines on the bottle. Once the lines are done, cut the top of the bottle off. Before you cut the downward lines, cut a thin strip from the top, this will be the band that you will use to keep the strips in place. Strips are bent outwards and tucked under the band which was cut from the top part. If the band is not strong enough to hold the strips, use sellotape to secure the strips.
