9/6/1937 - 12/12/2014

Bob Bell 74 was very actively involved with the Sea Scout Base. He was Deputy Assistant Commissioner, Base secretary, treasurer, training officer and competition organiser. Bob dedicated many years in the development of the Base.

As an assistant to the late Neville Coxon, Bob was not only the administrator but very actively involved in all aspects of the Base. He was very able in sourcing materials. A very large part of the building of the structures of the Base were due to his sourcing as well as building. Bob and Neville were very strong team.

In these days there were no sponsors and everything had to be done by fundraising and the annual dinner dance were a great success. Regular Boerewors Braais were organised at events. As I mentioned sourcing materials before Bob was very instrumental in doing this for Rotary Scout as well. He was instrumental in the very first Seamanship Competition that started out from Zandvlei and sailed along the coast to Macassar beach and back again the next day.

Bob's planning and running of Kontiki for years, Instituting the links with the Navy and organising the Admiral Bierman regatta out at sea at Simon's Town.

In 1985 he received the Certificate of Merit and in 1991 he received the Long Service Meadal.

Some of the memories I have of Bob are Brown sea Island, fundraising Braais, Seamanship Competition, Kontiki, Training at the Base, Building of the Base and story teller.

Rest in peace Bob Scout Heritage Centre
