The Scout Motto is: BE PREPARED. This means you are always in a state of readiness in mind and body to do your duty.

Be Prepared in Mind by having disciplined yourself to be obedient to every order, and also by having thought out beforehand any accident or situation that might occur, so that you know the right thing to do at the right moment, and are willing to do it.

Be Prepared in Body by making yourself strong and active and able to do the right thing at the right moment, and do it.

When Baden-Powell was once asked, "Be prepared for what?" he answered "Be prepared for anything". This means you must always be prepared to do your duty in order to help other people. You must prepare yourself by learning what to do when anything unexpected happens, and how to act at an accident or emergency.

You need to be prepared in many ways. This includes moral preparedness to resist temptations to join bad company, or lie or steal or swear. You will learn as you progress along the Scouting Trail how you can strengthen yourself to face life's problems by being prepared.
