The Camp-washline is a common feature in a scout camp.

This quick and easy camp gadget is a useful feature at a scout camp, and if you are camping at the same site for a few nights you might have more than one wash line.

Use a Round Turn and 2 Half Hitches to attach the rope to the trees.

Used for

  • In the mornings for inspection the sleeping bags are hung out to air (especially if there was rain the night before or heavy condensate in the tent over night.
  • After swimming, the towels and swimming costumes are dried here.
  • Bath towels and face-cloths are dried on the line rather than stuffed damp into a bag.

Tips

  • Span the line between two stout trees for a quick wash line.
  • Site the wash line out of the way - behind the kitchen or tents but inside the camp borders - where no one will accidentally run into the lines.
  • Keep the line taut (you may need to tighten the line after the first day) and high enough off the ground.
  • If the line is long and/or holding a heavy load - you will want to bandage (wrap a sack or newspaper) the tree to prevent damage to the bark
