Several scouting skills are used in the simple flagpole race.
- Knotting and lashing skills,
- Teamwork and communication,
- Ability to improvise.
Aim
Each patrol must fly their patrol flag from a 4 metre Camp flagpole using the following materials:
- 4 Scout Staves
- 6 x 2 metre lashing ropes
- 3 x 4 metre guylines
- 3 x Tent pegs
- 1 mallet
Game
On signal, each patrol must build a flagpole and fly their patrol flag:
They must
- Join staves together with round lashings to get the height,
- Attaching the 3 guylines about 3/4 the way up the flag pole with rolling hitches
- Hammer in the three tent pegs to form an equilateral triangle
- Tie the guylines to the pegs with taut-line hitches
- Adjust the tension on the guylines to hold the flagpole in a vertical position.
- Form-up and report in!
