Kim Shield

From SCOUTS South Africa Wiki

The Kim Shield is a scout hiking competition run in the Gauteng area. The KIM SHIELD has been in existence for over twenty-five years. Over that time, many Patrols have taken up the challenge to become the best Standing Patrol in the Gauteng Region, and walk away with the coveted trophy.

The event is an inter-patrol challenge hike and camp where skills and leadership are put to the test. The Patrol will cater their own food and organise their campsite which is their base for the weekend. For the hike, you are not required to take your camping equipment.

This challenge constitutes an incident hike, where you and your patrol must complete as many bases as possible. At each base there is an activity or challenge for the patrol to earn points.

Compulsory bases are the bases you must report to to earn maximum points.

Patrols

The patrol must consist of at least 5 scouts. A Standing patrol is where the patrol for the event are from the same patrol in the same troop and this earns you more points when you register than a patrol made up of a mix of scouts from various patrols.

The Patrol must bring along their own:

  • Compass
  • First aid kit

Each scout should bring along:

  • 2 litre water bottle - for hiking
  • Personal Survival kit
