Aids Awareness Badge

The Aids Awareness Badge covers awareness of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases. It forms part of the Discoverer Advancement Level.

Cord and Thong Challenge Awards

One of the highest achievable challenge awards for Scouts is that of the Cord or Thong. It is awarded for earning a variety of Scout Interest Badges. There are 4 types, namely: the Airman's Cord, the Bosun's Cord, the Bushman's Thong and the Service Cord.

Cub Instructor

The Cub Instructor badge can be earned by a senior Scout who spends a minimum of 6 months helping the Pack Scouter with the Cub Pack.

Diversity Awareness Badge

The Diversity Awareness Badge encourages Cubs, Scouts, Rovers and adults to learn more about diversity. It recognises that the values and behaviours of any one group of people are only different, not superior, to those of any other group of people.

Meerkat Instructor

The Meerkat Instructor badge can be earned by a senior Scout who spends a minimum of 6 months helping the Den Scouter with the Meerkat Den.

Patrol Leader Training Unit (PLTU)

The Patrol Leader Training Unit (PLTU) is a comprehensive leadership course run for young leaders in the Scout Movement.

President's Award

The President's Award for Youth Empowerment is an independent, structured youth development programme and is the South African implementation of The Duke of Edinburgh International Award. It is recognised and implemented by many schools, universities, and employers. Subject to eligibility by age, youth from all around the country can participate.

Water Awareness Certificate and Water Activity Licence

The Water Awareness Certificate and Water Activity License (WAL) are licenses granted to adult scouters as well as senior scouts who have been proven competent in the given field of swimming or boating. A Water Activity License holder is required for any activities involving boating. It is typical that there is at least one WAL holder in a Sea Scout Troop.

SDG Champion Award

The SDG Champion Badge is awarded to scouts/ Rovers who achieve 8 individual SDG badges. This is badge is worn either as an event badge or as an Interest Badge.

Star Patrol Award

The Star Award Recognition Programme is a Patrol and Troop management and self-assessment tool that is also used to recognise Troops and Patrols who are meeting the Aims of SCOUTS South Africa.
