SDG 8 is: "Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all." This is an SDG badge.
Meerkat requirements
This was part of the 2021 National Meerkat Challenge. Do ALL of the following:
- Decorate and sell cupcakes, cakes or biscuits (or similar) at a Group activity. Remember to have an adult in charge of the money. (This is part of the Cooking badge and the Den could complete the rest of the badge.)
- Make a poster to advertise your cake sale.
- As a Den donate the proceeds to a community cause.
Cub requirements
This was part of the 2021 National Cub Challenge. Complete ONE of the following:
- Earn the Entrepreneur interest badge.
- Plan and execute a fun career day as one of your Special Pack Meetings.
Scout requirements
Complete THREE of the following:
- Earn the Entrepreneurship Scoutcraft Badge.
- Research a career that interests you. Discuss this with your Patrol highlighting the career path therein.
- Conduct a macro economic review of the South African economy, highlighting both good and bad aspects of the current economic situation. Discuss your findings with your Scouter.
- Complete one of the following Interest badges: Plumber, Home Maintenance, Metal Worker, Carpenter, Designer, or Electrician (only if not completed for a previous challenge).
- Create a game for Cubs that illustrates the concept of economic growth.
- Take part in job shadowing for a week in a discipline that interests you. Report back to your Patrol on your experience.
Rover requirements
- Complete ONE award:
- Earn the Entrepreneurship Award.
- Earn the Diversity Award.
- Complete ONE requirement:
- Run an entrepreneurship day/fair for your local community to educate and inform those interested in entrepreneurship.
- Visit your local business development centre (SEDA, Business Partners, Branson Centre, etc.) and find out the function the centre performs and what challenges the people in the community experience. Present your findings back to the Crew or another Scouting body.
Adult requirements
Complete ONE requirement applicable to the branch you are working in:
- In your branch, be it Den/Pack/Troop/Crew hold an entrepreneur’s day where members bring along their goodies to sell. Ten percent of the profit goes to the Group.
- Write a programme for the Den/Pack dealing with money – showing how buying and selling and making a profit works.
- Write a programme for the Troop/Crew and let them discuss economic growth and unemployment.
