Left sleeve
Going up from Cubs
When an Cub is being invested to a Scout Troop, they will continue to wear the World Scout Membership Badge and the emblems of South Africa, their Region, District, and Group (if being invested in the same Group) as they never ceased being a member. They also keep their Group scarf.
However, they will remove all Cub Programme badges they have earned, with the exception of the Link and Leaping Wolf badges.
The Link badge may be worn until the Traveller badge is obtained and is worn in the centre of the left sleeve, in the same place as the advancement badges will be worn.
The Leaping Wolf badge may always be worn on a Scout uniform, above the left pocket as indicated in the diagram above.
Scoutcraft, interest and SDG badges
Scoutcraft, interest and SDG badges are placed on the right-hand sleeve in the order that the badges are earned (see image above).
Scoutcraft badges are removed from the shirt sleeve when the equivalent interest badge is earned, with the interest badge worn in the place of the corresponding Scoutcraft badge.
Temporary badges
Temporary emblems, such as badges for jamborees, International, National or Regional events and other Manco approved special badges are worn above the right pocket.
Only one temporary emblem is worn at a time and may only be worn for a maximum of six months after the event. It may be replaced at any time by any more recent, temporary emblem.
The National Challenge badge is worn in the same location as, or as an alternative to, a temporary emblem. It may be worn for the next calendar year.
Leadership development badges
Scouts that have been trained and awarded the LDC 1, LDC 2, PLTC or the PLTU badge will wear the highest badge attained. The position of this badge is located on the left side of the right pocket.
Cords
A Scout may wear multiple cords provided that they have met the necessary requirements for all of the cords. A cord is worn around the right shoulder, under the shoulder strap. The free or tasseled end is carried from the front of the armpit in a loose loop and fastened to either the button of the right pocket (Bushman's Thong and Service Cord) or to the left-hand top edge of the right pocket (Airman's Cord and Bosun's Cord).
Additional training or service
A Scout may wear any combination of up to four of the additional training badges at any one time. This includes:
- Activity licences such as for Air or Water Safety
- AIDS Awareness
- Diversity Awareness
- PLTU, etc.
If they have more than four, the Scout may select from those for which they are eligible, but typically would wear the most advanced or recent qualifications.
